Children’s Perspective As a Significant Tool of Socio-Religious and Economic Analysis

Children are valuable asset of each community. Children live their lives and develop their participation in various settings such as homes, kindergarten, schools, churches and different kind of institutions. Through their engagement with various people and activities, they are getting new perspectives and perception from time to time. In this brief write-up, we are trying to draw our attention on children’s perspective as the best tool of socio-religious and economic analysis.
What do we mean by ‘Children’s Perspective’?
The term ‘children’s perspective’ is used with a variety of meanings in sociology, anthropology and educational studies as well as in various child related professions. The word ‘perspective’ comes from the Latin word perspicere which means to look at, look through, examine. Children’s perspectives represent children’s experiences, perceptions, and understanding in their life-world. The focus is on the child as subject in his or her own world, the child’s phenomenology. This is what adults attempt to understand through their child perspective.
Characteristics of Children’s Perspective:
To approach children’s perspective of their world essentially requires a child perspective based on everyday experiences or professional insights. Children spontaneously compare, categorize, make patterns, make reasonable judgments etc. They are competent and intentional in communication and interacting both with the peers and adults. Sometimes, the life of children is shaped, filled with desires, misguided by prejudices and poisoned with destructive ideas. What they learn as children often lasts for a lifetime. According to David Hay, “Childhood has a peculiar ability to see reality in a way which is quite distinct from adult conceptions of ability to see reality in a way which is quite distinct from adult conceptions of reality. ” Experiences will help the children for getting better perceptions regarding social, religious and economic matters.”
Children’s Perspective and Society:
Family is the fundamental unit of society. Family plays an important role for the development of children through enriching the values of relationships within the family and outside of it. The experiences and challenges which they came across through the family, school and society are helping them to equip better perspectives regarding various realities and issues in and around them. According to Danish sociologist, Jens Qvortrup, “childhood constitutes a specific structure of society. Despite the differences between children and adults, they are exposed to the same social influences”. More specifically, the UN’s Declaration of the Rights of the Child explicitly mentions the child position in society. Hence it is important to recognize them as unique individuals in the society and to respond to what they are experiencing.
Children’s Perspective and Religion:
Children’s religious faith provides the perspective from which they are alerted to the value imperatives implicit within human ‘givens’, provides a self–transcendent reference point for the interpretation of their total experience, and prompts them to recognize the necessity of entering the arena of faith responses as a condition of personal meaning making. Through religious experiences and practices, they are acquiring new perspective on absolute reality and their respective religions.
Children’s Perspective and Economics:
The society is also based on the economic structures with claims and dues, so adult relations are always related on selfish motives. However, analyzing through the understanding of children would probably help us to a new economical perspective. It would be of no exaggeration to say that looking from children’s perspective has nothing to do with status, power and wealth but mainly dependent on grace.

Though children’s perspective has been largely ignored, however it is of vital importance as it is a significant tool of socio-religious and economic analysis. Children’s Perspective is not only useful to a certain age group, but also for every people irrespective of age, gender, religion and so on. Through adapting children’s perspective, we can discern the needs of the hour and engage vigorously in the very lives of our fellow beings in a chaotic and greedy world.
